Moosend: cheap email at volume, and the trade-offs that come with it

We have no affiliate relationship with Moosend. No link on this page earns us anything. The two comparisons linked at the foot both involve GetResponse, which does pay us a commission. How this works

Moosend is an email marketing platform built around one idea: low cost per contact. Campaigns, automation workflows, landing pages and ecommerce tracking, without the pricing curve that makes most email tools painful once your list gets large.

It's been owned by Constant Contact since mid-2025. Both platforms currently operate independently with separate pricing, but it's worth knowing the ownership has changed — acquisitions have a habit of eventually affecting pricing and roadmap.

Pricing

Moosend has effectively one public plan — Pro — priced by contact count, with unlimited email sends at every tier. Moosend+ and Enterprise exist but are custom-quoted with no published numbers.

Contacts Pro plan, billed monthly
500 $9/mo
2,000 around $24/mo
50,000 around $315/mo
1,000,000 around $5,840/mo

Checked against published pricing on 12 August 2026. Annual billing reduces the monthly rate, and non-profits get a further discount. Confirm the current rate for your exact contact count before you sign up — tiers are stepped, not linear.

One genuinely good billing detail: Moosend charges per unique email address across all your lists. If the same person appears in three lists, you're billed once. Several competitors count each appearance separately, which quietly inflates your bill.

The jump to watch: $9 to $24 between 500 and 2,000 contacts is a near-tripling for a modest list increase. The cost advantage is real, but it appears at larger volumes — at very small list sizes, free tiers elsewhere beat it outright.

Who it suits

  • Anyone with a list large enough that per-contact cost is the deciding factor
  • Businesses sending high volumes — sends are unlimited rather than metered, so daily campaigns cost the same as monthly ones
  • Ecommerce operators wanting abandoned cart and product tracking without premium pricing
  • Seasonal senders, who can buy email credits instead of a subscription and skip paying year-round for two busy months

Where it's weaker

  • Email only. No SMS, no push notifications, no WhatsApp, no live chat. If you need to coordinate email with any other channel in one workflow, this isn't the platform
  • No permanent free tier — a 30-day trial, then you pay. Several competitors offer free plans you can sit on indefinitely
  • Transactional email is gated behind the custom-priced tiers, not available on Pro
  • Extra team seats, SSO and custom reporting all require a custom quote
  • Smaller ecosystem and fewer native integrations than the market leaders
  • Ownership change in 2025 introduces some uncertainty about long-term direction

Probably not for you if

  • You're just starting and have no list yet — the cost advantage arrives at volume, and there's no free tier to grow into
  • Multi-channel matters to you now or soon
  • You need transactional email alongside marketing email
  • You want to test indefinitely before paying

Questions

Is there a free plan?

No. There's a 30-day free trial with no credit card required, covering unlimited sends to 1,000 contacts. After that it's paid. If a permanent free tier matters, several of the tools we cover have one — the comparison table on our homepage marks which ones.

Is it actually cheaper than the alternatives?

At larger list sizes, yes — that's its entire proposition. $9/month at 500 contacts sits roughly 40% below the category median, and unlimited sends at that price is unusual. At small list sizes the gap narrows and free tiers elsewhere win outright. Worth saying plainly: this is cheaper per contact than GetResponse, which is the email tool that pays us a commission.

What happens when my trial ends?

Your account and data stay intact. You upgrade to Pro or buy email credits to keep sending. Nothing is deleted at expiry.

Does the Constant Contact ownership change anything?

Not so far. The platforms operate independently with separate pricing and no announced consolidation. Worth monitoring rather than worrying about — we'll update this page if that changes.

Can I send SMS through it?

No. It's email only. This is the most significant limitation and the main reason to choose something else if multi-channel is part of your plan.

If it fits, start here

Use the 30 days to import your real list and send real campaigns — deliverability against your own audience is the thing you can't assess from a feature list. Then price the Pro plan at your actual contact count, and at the count you expect in twelve months, before the trial ends.
